Intel Atom heirs to move to 10nm Tremont architecture in early 2021

Intel Atom heirs to move to 10nm Tremont architecture in early 2021

One of Intel’s Chinese-language presentation slides, released to the public this summer, mentioned the company’s intentions to introduce 10nm Jasper Lake processors before the end of this year. New information indicates the possibility of their appearance only at the beginning of the next, but now the range of models is known.

For FanlessTech, the Jasper Lake family of processors is a subject of profile interest, since they will be used in compact desktop and low-cost mobile systems – the so-called nettops and netbooks. These processors will share Tremont’s energy-efficient core architecture with Lakefield and Snow Ridge, which will provide significant performance improvements over its predecessor Goldmont Plus. In the frame from Intel’s August presentation, it can be seen that the next Gracemont architecture will be released next year, so the company no longer has the opportunity to postpone the debut of the Jasper Lake family. The debut of these processors is scheduled for the first quarter of 2021, according to the primary source.

The basic configuration of Tremont processors will imply the presence of four cores, like their predecessors. Improvements at the microarchitecture level were aimed at improving performance in single-threaded computing, networking equipment, and increasing the degree of autonomy for mobile systems. Specific productivity per core should grow by 30% on average, if compared with Goldmont Plus, the maximum gain can reach 80%.

Jasper Lake desktop models will be split between the Pentium Silver N6005 (2.0-3.3 GHz), Celeron N5105 (2.0-2.8 GHz), and Celeron N4505 (2.0-2.9 GHz). All of them will receive Intel UHD graphics and 4 MB of L2 cache. The first two models will offer four cores and four threads, the younger Celeron N4505 will be limited to two cores and two threads. The TDP value for desktop processors reaches 10 watts.

For mobile versions of Jasper Lake, the TDP level is reduced to 6 W. The senior in this case will be Pentium Silver N6000 (1.1-3.1 GHz) with four cores and four threads. A similar configuration of cores will be offered by the Celeron N5100 (1.1-2.8 GHz), while the dual-core Celeron N4500 will retain the same operating frequency range. All three Jasper Lake mobile processors will use Intel UHD graphics and 4MB of L2 cache.
