Intel expects revenge in the mobile segment: everyone needs a laptop now

Intel expects revenge in the mobile segment: everyone needs a laptop now

Next week, 10nm Tiger Lake mobile processors featuring advanced Xe-LP graphics and Willow Cove architecture will be unveiled. In the mobile segment, Intel is betting not only on them but also on the continuing high demand. Two computers for one family are no longer enough, each family member must own their own laptop.

Similar comments were made at this week’s BMO event by Intel executive vice president Michelle Johnston Holthaus, who is responsible for global marketing at the corporation. Intel looks confidently into the second half of the year when it comes to the situation in the notebook segment. First, new Tiger Lake processors are coming to the market. Secondly, the potential for self-isolation has not yet been exhausted, and many pupils and students in the new academic year will be forced to remain in the remote form of education, and therefore they will need laptops.

According to Michelle Johnston Holthouse, the days when one or two computers were enough for a family are gone, now everyone should have a personal laptop. The “density” of laptops, so to speak, is increasing, while the demand for them remains high.

Intel also has a lot to look forward to in terms of production priorities. Mobile processors with fewer cores weren’t the main contenders for a place on the pipeline during the period of severe production capacity shortages, but now Intel is ready to catch up. We are talking, presumably, about inexpensive mobile processors that can be used in the same “Chromebooks” for education. This is where Intel expects to regain some of its lost ground. Considering that AMD’s partners among laptop manufacturers are complaining about the shortage of components of the same name, then Intel’s chances of revenge increase.
