It will take effect with the release of Meteor Lake
Today’s leak regarding new Intel processor names has been confirmed. The company published a press release, where they talked about the new approach and revealed the details.
Intel introduced and explained the new CPU naming system
So, speaking of the need for new titles, Intel explains it this way:
Our customer roadmap showcases how Intel prioritizes innovation and technology leadership with power efficiency and AI focused products like Meteor Lake. To better align with our product strategies, we’re introducing a branding framework to help PC shoppers better differentiate between the best of our latest technologies and our core offerings.
That is, new names are needed, firstly, because Meteor Lake will be a completely new product, and secondly, so that users better understand what they are buying.
As already mentioned, Intel will divide the processors into two segments. The older one will include the most advanced Core Ultra processors, while the younger one will just have Intel Core.
As we have already seen, both Core 3 and Core 5 models will be present in both the first and second segments, and it is not yet clear on the basis of what characteristics the division will be. Perhaps, simply by the presence of an unlocked multiplier, that is, Ultra models will continue the ideas of models with the K index.
