Gartner analytics specialists summed up the results of 2019 on the global semiconductor products market. According to their estimates, the specified market for the year decreased by 12%. In monetary terms, this looks like a reduction from $ 476.151 billion to $ 419.148 billion.
Intel is again the largest semiconductor manufacturer
According to analysts, the reason for the reduction should be sought in the memory segment, which accounts for 26.1% of all sales. The overproduction of DRAM memory, which led to a drop in prices, resulted in a 32.7% reduction in overall sales in the memory segment.
As a result, Samsung dropped from first place to second, passing Intel ahead. To clarify: sales of Samsung semiconductor products decreased by 29.2% compared to 2018, from $ 73.708 billion to $ 52.191 billion, while Intel increased sales by 2.2% from $ 66.290 billion to $ 67.754 billion. Intel’s market share for the year is 16.2%, Samsung’s share is 12.5%
SK hynix took third place, which reduced sales even more than Samsung – from $ 36.240 billion to $ 22.297 billion, or 38.5%. Another major memory producer, Micron Technology, cut sales from $ 29.742 billion to $ 20.254 billion, or 31.9%. It takes fourth place with 4.8% of the market. Broadcom closes the top five with 3.7%.
