Raptor Lake Refresh may partially fill the gap
Intel will once again postpone the launch of a new generation of processors to a later date. According to DigiTimes, the Arrow Lake CPU line will not be released in 2024 as planned, but will appear only in 2025.
More specifically, Intel has delayed placing orders for 3nm wafers from TSMC. It is TSMC, and precisely according to the 3 nm standards, that should have produced iGPU tiles for Arrow Lake for Intel. Recall that iGPUs for Meteor Lake, which, presumably, will still be released this year, will also be produced by TSMC, but according to 5 nm standards.
Intel won’t have really new desktop processors until 2025?
Intel will place orders for tiles for Arrow Lake only in the fourth quarter of 2024, so the CPUs themselves will not be able to come out before 2025.
And this raises a number of questions. Intel recently promised to release Meteor Lake this year, despite rumors that their launch will be pushed back to 2024. However, Meteor Lake, according to all available data, will not be available in the desktop segment. Previously, all the rumors and leaks indicated that Meteor Lake would coexist in the market with Arrow Lake, and the latter will just exist in the form of desktop CPUs. However, now it turns out that Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake will share at least a year with a little. And it’s unclear what kind of CPUs Intel will be pushing into the desktop space after Raptor Lake or Raptor Lake Refresh, if any appear this year.
