Rocket Lake is not taken into account, as they will receive a not entirely new architecture at the time of release

Intel will introduce Rocket Lake desktop processors early next year. In late 2021 or early 2022, which is more likely, the brand new Alder Lake will be released. They will finally bring the 10-nanometer process technology to the desktop segment, and at the same time will become the first desktop heterogeneous Intel CPUs.

Intel’s current desktop processor architecture is so old that the next one will bring IPC gains of 35-50%. Alder Lake

According to recent leaks, the rate of instructions executed per cycle (IPC) relative to the Skylake architecture will grow by an incredible 35-50%, and relative to the most modern Willow Cove architecture (Tiger Lake processors) it will grow by 10-20%, which is also a lot …

True, as you know, such CPUs will receive only up to eight large cores and up to eight small ones. So it’s completely unclear how such hybrid 16-core models can compete with AMD’s full-fledged 16-core monsters. In addition, in 2022, AMD may well increase the number of cores in desktop CPUs even more.

In terms of configurations, the source says the following:

  • Core i9 – 8/16 + 8 (8 large cores with Hyper-Threadgin support plus eight small ones)
  • Core i7 – 8/16 + 4
  • Core i5 – 6/12 + 4
  • Core i3 – 6/12 + 0

Interestingly, even such unusual processors will be based on monolithic crystals, which is unlikely to allow Intel to significantly reduce prices.

Much less is known about Intel’s future plans. After the Adler Lake processors, the Meteor Lake CPU should come out, which will keep the LGA1700 socket, move to the 7 nm process technology and the Redwood Cove architecture (name not confirmed). There are rumors that Meteor Lake will be not just a new generation, but in many ways the first. In them, Intel will abandon some old technologies, their architecture will be universal from the point of view of production, that is, other companies will be able to produce these CPUs.

After these CPUs, Intel’s plans include Lunar Lake models, expected in 2023-2024. There are no details about them yet.
