Introduced Compal ZeroEdge laptop with curved screen, which has almost no bezels
Compal Electronics, a well-known Taiwanese electronics manufacturer, demonstrated a concept laptop called ZeroEdge: the main feature of the novelty is its almost completely frameless design.
The prototype is equipped with an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen measuring 14 inches diagonally. This panel folds over to the left and right sides of the lid.
A special hinge mount allows the display to float above the laptop base. Due to this, it was possible to minimize the width of the bottom frame. The top bezel is also virtually absent.
As a result, the display is said to occupy 99% of one side of the lid’s surface area. In this case, the curved screen’s side parts can function as additional touch control strips for adjusting the volume level, launching applications, switching music tracks, etc.
Two ZeroEdge laptops can be stacked side-by-side with the missing side bezels with no visible gap between displays for an ultra-widescreen display.
Alas, while the novelty exists only in the form of a concept. Nothing has been announced about the timing of the project’s implementation.
