Previously only talked about USB-C, not Thunderbolt

According to ChargerLAB, which received exclusive images of the USB-C connectors for the iPhone 15, the new smartphones will support Thunderbolt technology.

Thunderbolt is a hardware interface developed by Intel in collaboration with Apple to transfer data at high speeds. The current version of Thunderbolt works over USB-C and is present in many Apple devices such as Macs and iPad Pros.

ChargerLAB notes that leaked iPhone 15 components contain a Retimer chip. This chip is commonly used to restore and reduce signal fluctuations in Thunderbolt-enabled devices.

The USB-C connector on the iPhone 15 will be able to transfer data at much higher speeds than the Lightning connector is capable of. For example, the Lightning connector is based on USB 2.0, which transfers up to 480 Mbps. Typical USB-C connectors transfer data at speeds ranging from 5Gbps to 10Gbps. When it comes to Thunderbolt, data transfer speeds are up to 40Gbps.

This allows you to quickly transfer 4K ProRes videos to your computer. In addition, this technology can also provide more power for faster charging. At this point, it’s not clear if every iPhone 15 model will have Thunderbolt or just the Pro models.

Earlier it was reported that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will use USB 2.0 version with transfer speeds up to 480 Mbps, which is similar to the previous Lightning interface. At the same time, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will receive USB 3.2, and the transfer speed can reach 20 Gb / s.
