iPhone 17: A Smoother, Sleeker Future Ahead?

Apple’s iPhone 16 series has just hit the shelves, but the tech world is already abuzz with rumors about the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup. One of the most exciting tidbits to emerge is the possibility of standard iPhone models finally getting a much-needed upgrade: a smoother 120Hz display.

A Smoother Experience for All

According to display analyst Ross Young, the iPhone 17 and the rumored “iPhone 17 Air” (potentially replacing the Plus model) will ditch the standard 60Hz refresh rate and offer a more fluid 120Hz display. This significant upgrade brings the standard models in line with the Pro models, which have boasted 120Hz displays since the iPhone 13 Pro.

A higher refresh rate translates to smoother scrolling, improved gaming performance, and a generally more enjoyable user experience. It’s a feature that has long been coveted by iPhone enthusiasts, and its inclusion in the standard models would be a major win for Apple.

ProMotion Technology for Efficiency

The iPhone 17 is expected to utilize Apple’s ProMotion technology, which dynamically adjusts the refresh rate based on the content being displayed. This means that the display can switch to a lower refresh rate for static images, saving battery life without compromising on visual quality. While it remains to be seen if the iPhone 17 can achieve the same low refresh rates as the iPhone 16 Pro models (1Hz), ProMotion technology should ensure a balance between smoothness and efficiency.

Farewell to the Notch (Maybe)

While the display details for the iPhone 17 are exciting, rumors of an under-display Face ID system for the iPhone 17 Pro seem to have cooled down. Young has clarified that this technology is more likely to appear in the iPhone 19 lineup in 2027.

A Slimmer iPhone on the Horizon?

The “iPhone 17 Air” moniker suggests a possible design shift for the standard model. This could mean a thinner, lighter phone compared to the standard iPhone 17, offering a more portable and sleek experience.

iPhone SE 4: A Budget-Friendly Option

Beyond the iPhone 17, rumors point to a 2025 launch for the iPhone SE 4. This budget-friendly model is expected to borrow design cues from the iPhone 14, including an OLED display. Additionally, the iPhone SE 4 may feature Apple Intelligence, the company’s on-device AI features, providing a powerful performance boost at a more affordable price point.
