And such cases have already been
Perhaps the fears of many people about the dangers of electric vehicles are greatly exaggerated, but they are constantly fueled not only by the news about another car on fire, but also by the manufacturers themselves. For example, Jaguar has announced a recall campaign that applies to all I-Pace crossovers in the US, precisely because of the fire hazard.
According to the report, vehicles experience thermal overload, which can manifest itself in the form of smoke or fire, which can occur under the vehicle where the high-voltage traction battery is located.
Jaguar recalls all I-Paces in US due to battery fire risk
The problem is that fires not only can be, but have been. The Electrek resource reports that it warned Jaguar about the danger a year ago, and already at that time there were four cases of ignition of such crossovers. Given that the I-Pace is by no means a very mainstream model, four cases is a lot. And by now there may be more.
In addition, Jaguar crossovers are equipped with LG batteries, which have previously been the cause of a huge Chevy Bolt recall campaign.
It should be noted that the recall campaign concerns cars manufactured since June 5, 2018 at a plant in the Austrian city of Graz, that is, apparently, the problem also applies to cars supplied to the European market, but Jaguar has not yet announced a recall campaign there.
