Japan will develop a G7 statement on Hong Kong

Japan intends to take the lead in developing a joint G7 statement on the situation around Hong Kong, said Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. At the end of May, Beijing adopted a resolution on national security. Hong Kong believes that it threatens the independence of the region and could put an end to the principle of “One country – two systems.”

“Of course, we acknowledge that the G7 has a mission to control global public opinion, and Japan wants to take the initiative in publishing a statement based on the principle of“ One country – two systems, ” Mr Abe said at a meeting of the budget commission of the lower house of parliament, answering the question of whether the “seven” will respond to the situation in Hong Kong (quoted by Reuters).
