Jim Jordan Threatens Contempt Citation Against Facebook’s Zuckerberg
During an appearance on FNC’s “The Ingraham Angle” on Monday, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, issued a warning to Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. He stated that Zuckerberg could potentially face a contempt of Congress citation if he fails to provide information regarding his company Meta and any collaboration with the U.S. government to censor protected speech.
Host Laura Ingraham mentioned a concern about potential First Amendment violations on the Threads platform, as Meta has censored protected speech based on government agencies’ requests. According to Fox Business, there are considerations of holding Zuckerberg in contempt of Congress.
In response, Jordan asserted that if Zuckerberg does not cooperate and provide the requested information, they will proceed with the contempt citation. He pointed out that Threads is following the same guidelines as Facebook, which a Federal Court recently found to have been censoring Americans under pressure from federal agencies and other Big Tech companies. Jordan emphasized that they aim to put an end to such practices, which he considers a direct attack on the First Amendment.
