Kia EV3 vs Kia Seltos: A Head-to-Head Showdown for Compact SUV Supremacy

The Indian car market is witnessing a paradigm shift towards electric vehicles (EVs). Kia, a prominent automaker, has already made its mark with the performance-oriented EV6 crossover. However, the EV6 caters to a niche segment with a premium price tag. To bridge the gap and target a wider audience, Kia is gearing up to launch a more affordable electric SUV in India by 2 This unnamed electric SUV has sparked speculation, with the recently unveiled Kia EV3 emerging as a potential contender. But how does the Kia EV3 stack up against Kia’s existing gasoline-powered champion, the Kia Seltos? Let’s delve into a comprehensive comparison to see which SUV reigns supreme.

Sizing Up: Dimensions and Design Philosophy

A glance reveals distinct design philosophies between the Kia EV3, built on the electric-only E-GMP platform, and the Seltos, a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle. While the Seltos boasts a slightly larger footprint in terms of length (4365 mm) and height (1645 mm), the EV3 comes in a tad shorter (4300 mm) and lower (1560 mm). Interestingly, the EV3 compensates with a wider stance (1850 mm) compared to the Seltos (1800 mm).

Wheelbase and Cargo Capacity

Despite its shorter length, the EV3 benefits from the E-GMP platform’s layout, resulting in a longer wheelbase (2680 mm) compared to the Seltos (2610 mm). This translates to potentially more spacious legroom and headroom for rear passengers in the EV3.

Cargo capacity is another area where the EV3 shines. While the Seltos offers a respectable 433 liters of boot space, the EV3 boasts a larger 460-liter cargo area. Additionally, the EV3 provides a unique advantage with a 25-liter frunk (front trunk) located under the hood, offering extra storage for essential items.

Feature Frenzy: Exploring Comfort and Convenience

Both the Kia EV3 and Kia Seltos are packed with features designed to enhance comfort and convenience. Here’s a closer look at what each SUV offers:

Kia EV3

  • Exterior: LED headlights, DRLs, and tail lights. Aerodynamically designed alloy wheels (size yet to be revealed).
  • Interior: White and grey dual-tone theme with PET material seats and a recycled material steering wheel. A prominent feature is the integrated display setup with a large touchscreen infotainment system and driver’s display. The climate control functions are integrated into a separate 5-inch touchscreen panel.
  • Comfort and Convenience: A spacious cabin with ample legroom and headroom thanks to the longer wheelbase. The EV3 boasts a 12.3-inch fully digital driver’s display, automatic climate control with touch controls, rear AC vents, a 12.3-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, and a Harman Kardon sound system. Safety is addressed with airbags, a 360-degree view camera, and Level-2 ADAS functionalities.

Kia Seltos

  • Exterior: LED headlights, DRLs, and tail lights. Front projector fog lamps are included. Alloy wheels come in either 17 or 18 inches. The shark fin antenna adds a touch of style.
  • Interior: Black and beige dual-tone dashboard (higher trims get an all-black option). Leatherette seats and a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel provide a premium feel.
  • Comfort and Convenience: The Seltos offers a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, an 8-inch head-up display, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an 8-speaker Bose sound system. Safety features include airbags, a 360-degree view camera, and Level-2 ADAS.

While both SUVs boast a plethora of features, the EV3 stands out with its futuristic design elements, use of recycled materials, and touch-based control panels.
