It is 5 times stronger than the previous one

The US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced a new achievement of the InSight lander from the surface of the Red Planet

It is speculated that this discovery could be the last major find of the InSight Mars lander before it is permanently shut down due to dust buildup on its solar arrays. In November, NASA reported that the probe had only a few weeks of “life”.

The quake was at least five times stronger than the last largest seismic event recorded on the planet – in August 2021. It occurred on May 4 and had a magnitude of 4.7. What’s more, InSight recorded waves from the record-breaking earthquake for about 10 hours, while the effects of all previous marsquakes subsided within an hour.

Seismologist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich John Clinton said:

The energy released by this single quake is equivalent to the combined energy of all the other quakes we have seen so far.
