And new consoles should support it too
Interface HDMI 2.1 appeared on the market in 2018, but over time has not yet become very common. There are very few products with HDMI 2.1 support.
LG has abandoned HDMI 2.1 in its new TVs, although other players, by contrast, are starting to implement this interface
LG was one of the few, if not the only one, to offer televisions with support for this interface last year. What is even more surprising is that new LG models of the same lines will not receive HDMI 2.1 support. The company said it would not release a single new model with such connectors this year.
The reason is the lack of content. LG prefers to direct unused computing power to features and applications with artificial intelligence, rather than support inaccessible in the market “48-gigabyte content.”
At the same time, other manufacturers, on the contrary, believe that it is time in 2020 to release TVs with HDMI 2.1. Visio said that all TVs of the 2020 model year will receive support for this interface. Sony and Samsung also announced their intention to release such TVs. It is also worth recalling that the Xbox Series X has an HDMI 2.1 port and, most likely, the Sony PlayStation 5 will have the same one. Given that TVs, and especially top-end ones, are bought for 5-10 years or more, LG’s decision to abandon HDMI 2.1 seems at least controversial.
