Immediately after the announcement of LG’s withdrawal from the market of cellular devices, it was reported that the company would continue to release updates and security patches for its devices. Moreover, it has been said that LG will even update some smartphones to Android 12. The company has now officially shared its plans for existing devices.

During this quarter, LG will continue to manufacture smartphones following contracts with partners and carriers. It is planned to completely close this line of business by the end of July.

The company announced that all premium smartphones in use would receive up to three editions of the Android operating system from the date of purchase. This means that the software platform of some LG devices will be updated within three years.

In particular, three comprehensive OS updates are guaranteed for smartphones purchased in 2019 and later. We are talking about devices of the G Series, V Series, Velvet, and Wing families.

Meanwhile, select 2020 models like the LG Stylo and K Series will receive two operating system updates.
