“Looks almost like magic”: Mortal Shell developers were impressed by the speedrun of their game

As part of its already permanent column “Developers React to Speedruns,” IGN invited the founders of Cold Symmetry to comment on the fast-paced passage of their action RPG Mortal Shell.

A recent run by streamer LilAggy was chosen as an illustration. Despite the fact that the 30-minute walkthrough is not a record, the speedrunner still managed to surprise the developers pretty much.

Most of all, the founders of Cold Symmetry were impressed by the trick, thanks to which LilAggy, contrary to all the laws of in-game physics, managed to soar into the skies and land safely after falling from a height.

“He probably had to fall hundreds of times to figure out that very trajectory. Looks almost like magic, ”Andrew McLennan-Murray blurted out emotionally.

LilAggy speedrun belongs to the Any% category. This classification assumes that the streamer uses any means not prohibited by the community to achieve the finale – for example, bugs for skipping pieces of the level, enemies, or bosses.

At the time of publication of the material, the record for the speedy passage of Mortal Shell belongs to the American streamer Distortion2 – 28 minutes and 4 seconds excluding downloads.

Mortal Shell was released on August 18 this year on PC (Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The retail edition of the hardcore action RPG will go on sale much later – only on October 2.
