Lovecraft Lands showrunner directed the second part of the Tomb Raider adaptation

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MCM) has recruited Misha Green to write and direct the next installment of Tomb Raider: Lara Croft, a controversial 2018 adaptation of the acclaimed game. Alicia Vikander will continue to play the role of Lara Croft.

Green will take over the work following the creation of Lovecraft Country, a breakthrough HBO series starring Jurnee Smollett, Jonathan Majors, and Michael Kenneth Williams. The new film will be produced by Graham King through his company GK Films and Elizabeth Cantillon through The Cantillon Company.

Misha Greene has acted alongside Jordan Peele and JJ Abrams as showrunner and executive producer of Lovecraft Country, based on the novel by Matt Ruff. She also wrote and produced The Mother, which was sold by Netflix, and is also the producer of Warner Brothers’ Cleopatra Jones. She was previously the co-writer, executive producer, and writer of the critically acclaimed WGN series “Subway” in the US.

Tomb Raider: Lara Croft in 2018 with Alicia Vikander grossed about $ 275 million at the worldwide box office with a budget of $ 94 million. Therefore, despite the relatively low rating ( 6.3 / 10 – on IMDB6.1 / 10 – on “ Kinopoisk ” and 48/100 – on Metacritic ) of the film, the creation of its sequel is a logical step. We can only hope that this time Tomb Raider fans will receive a better film adaptation, at least in terms of script and direction. When the movie will be released, was not specified, but outside the United States, Warner Bros. will be responsible for distribution.
