At the same time, MacBook Air costs $ 1000, and Mac Pro – from $ 5000
Comparisons of the performance of the new Apple notebooks with other Apple products and various x86 processors continue. This time, the evaluation was carried out on the Geekbench test results of the new 2019 MacBook Air and Mac Pro based on the Xeon processor. And here the cheapest Apple laptop was able to bypass the most expensive Apple computer. But not in all tests.
MacBook Air with M1 processor is faster than Mac Pro with Xeon processor
The stumbling block of the M1 is multithreading. In this regard, Apple’s SoCs are difficult to compete with Intel and AMD CPUs. However, the gap between the 8-core and 16-thread Xeon W-3223 is not so great here: 8064 points against 7433 points for the M1. But in a single-threaded test, M1 is much ahead: 1687 points against 1007 points. And this despite the fact that the frequency of the Xeon W-3223 is higher than that of the CPU M1: 3.5 GHz versus 3.2 GHz.
