The first Macs with the M3 chip will appear this year
The new Mac minis and top-end MacBook Pros won’t be among the first Macs to launch with the Apple M3 SoC later this year. Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman writes about this.
In his opinion, the Mac mini based on the Apple M3 is in development, but the device will not appear before the end of 2024. Similarly, the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models won’t be released this year. These laptops are expected to feature the Apple M3 Pro and M3 Max SoCs and will likely launch no later than mid-2024.
He also noted that the M2-based Mac mini was released more than two years after the introduction of the Apple M1 Soc, suggesting that Apple does not view the Mac mini as a device that requires annual updates. This contrasts with the high-end MacBook Pro, a much more popular device, with an update cycle roughly every four or five quarters.

Gurman said last week that the first Macs with the M3 chip could arrive as early as October this year. The first models with the M3 chip are likely to be the 13-inch MacBook Pro, 13-inch MacBook Air, and 24-inch iMac.
The M3 chip is expected to be fabricated using TSMC’s 3nm process for significant performance and power efficiency improvements over the 5nm M2 chip.
