Fujifilm has released new firmware versions for all three mirrorless digital cameras included in the GFX system: GFX50S, GFX50R, and GFX100. According to the manufacturer, this is the largest update in the entire history of the system, that is, three years after the release of the GFX50S camera that opened it.

The new firmware improves autofocus performance, adds new features, and expands the ability to adjust image quality. In particular, the number of film modeling modes has been increased. All three cameras received the Classic Neg mode, which simulates a classic color negative film, the GFX100 – Eterna Bleach Bypass mode, which models the processing technology of the same film, and the GFX 50S and GFX 50R – Eterna model, which reproduces the colors and tonality of the Fujifilm film. The previously available Smooth Skin Effect has been added to the GFX 50S and GFX 50R. On the other hand, the Color Chrome Blue mode has been added to the GFX100, which improves the transmission of colors in images of the sky and other objects whose main color is blue.

Allegedly, the speed and accuracy of phase focusing in the GFX100 have become even higher even in low light conditions (up to -5EV). In the GFX 50S and GFX 50R cameras, the update adds the Low Light Priority AF-S mode, which also improves the speed and accuracy of autofocus in low light conditions. In all three models, focusing on faces and eyes was improved, and the accuracy and stability of face and eye recognition when shooting groups of people were improved. In addition, an automatic focus bracketing mode has been added.

As for the expansion of functionality, the new firmware makes it possible to change the exposure settings (shutter speed, aperture, photosensitivity, and exposure compensation) when shooting remotely using a computer. The list of image editing programs that can import the rating assigned to frames in the camera has been expanded. In the GFX 50S and GFX 50R models, the maximum number of shots in each folder on the SD memory card has been increased from 999 to 9999.

GFX100 owners who use stabilizers and drones when shooting will appreciate the ability to start and stop video recording added to the update, set exposure settings for the video, and focus manually (provided that the stabilizer or drone supports this feature). Guilin FeiYu Electronic Technology, Shenzhen Gudsen Technology, SZ DJI Technology, and ZHIYUN have already announced plans to release compatible equipment.

Finally, the GFX100 has the ability to output 4K video with a frame rate of up to 29.97 fps and 12-bit Apple ProRes RAW format via HDMI to the Atomos Ninja V recorder. Atomos promises to release a corresponding update for the specified recorder.

The new firmware for the GFX 50S is version 4.00, for the other two cameras – 2.00. Download links are given in the source.
