Previously, the iPhone was banned in government agencies
Following reports that the Chinese government has banned the use of iPhones in government agencies, reports have emerged that China Mobile, a major mobile operator, will not sell the iPhone 15.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is trying to avoid a crisis just days before the global launch of the iPhone 15. The company is not only engaged in banning iPhones among Chinese government employees but also regulating competition with smartphones from local brands. The company is threatened by a “resurgence of Chinese nationalism” that is causing customers to avoid buying foreign devices.
Major operator China Mobile will not sell the iPhone 15
In 2019, Apple recorded a sharp drop in iPhone XR and XS sales in the country amid the trade war between the US and China. The company was able to recover from this scenario in 2021 and 2022, but things seem to have gotten even worse this year.
If China Mobile indeed does not sell the iPhone 15, then this could be a serious problem for Apple, since China is currently one of the most important markets for the company.
Bloomberg notes that despite the disputes between the US and Chinese governments, the Asian country has no incentive to ban iPhones in the country as Apple still provides millions of jobs in the country and it will ultimately impact the local economy.
Apple’s presentation will take place in just a few days, on September 12th.
