Margot Robbie Selects Gal Gadot as Ideal Barbie Actress
Gal Gadot is flattered that Barbie producer (and star) Margot Robbie wanted her to play the title character.
Decades ago, Mattel introduced a Wonder Woman Barbie, and interestingly, we were almost graced with the presence of the real-life embodiment of this iconic doll, none other than Gal Gadot. It turns out that Gal Gadot was the initial choice of Barbie producer and eventual star Margot Robbie, who recognized in Gadot what she described as “Barbie energy,” a quality distinct from “Kenergy.”
In a recent conversation with Flaunt, Gal Gadot expressed her deep appreciation for Robbie’s desire to have her as the lead in the Barbie movie, despite having to decline due to prior commitments. Gadot spoke highly of Robbie, stating, “I adore Margot… She is so funny, warm, fun, smart, and obviously, so talented. She brings so much to the table. I would love to do anything with Margot and was very touched [by her comments]. She warmed my heart with everything that she said about me. I’m super excited for them, and I’m so excited for Barbie.” While Gadot did attend the Los Angeles premiere of Barbie, she opted not to don the traditional pink attire.
Margot Robbie, explaining her desire to cast Gal Gadot as Barbie, shared her admiration in a Vogue interview, stating, “Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky. It’s like right before being a dork.” Unfortunately, Gadot’s scheduling didn’t allow her to join the lineup of various Barbie renditions.
While opinions vary on whether Gal Gadot would have been a fitting Barbie, especially when compared to Robbie, who is making waves this awards season, it’s clear that the casting choice would have been a significant departure from the time when Amy Schumer was originally attached to the project.
As of now, Barbie has impressively crossed the $500 million mark at the domestic box office and has surpassed $1 billion globally, nearly surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie as the highest-grossing film of the year.
Considering Gadot’s unique charm, how do you think she would have fared as Barbie? Do you believe the movie would have been as successful at the box office without Margot Robbie? Share your thoughts below!
