Not a single Qualcomm platform has this – He is better than VP9

The single-chip MediaTek Dimensity 1000 system was introduced about six months ago but still has not appeared on the market. For what reasons MediaTek has not yet released this SoC, it is unclear, but the Density 1000 is interesting if only because it is the company’s first top platform in recent years. Recall that this is a seven-meter SoC with four Cortex-A77 cores, four Cortex-A55, GPU Mali-G77 MP9 and an integrated 5G modem. Preliminary tests indicated that in AnTuTu this solution is gaining more than 510,000 points, which is impressive.
MediaTek Density 1000

Today MediaTek decided to recall another important feature of its top-end platform. The fact is that Dimensity 1000 is the first and at the moment, apparently, the only single-chip system for smartphones with support for the AV1 codec. AV1 is the successor to VP9, bypassing the latter in compression efficiency by 30-40% or more.

A recent MediaTek press release tells us that the Dimensity 1000 will support YouTube videos using the AV1 codec. The capabilities of Dimensity 1000, in this case, are limited to 4K resolution at 60 fps, which is more than enough for smartphones. Using AV1 will allow the YouTube application to use fewer hardware resources, which will increase the device’s autonomy.
