Sales will begin next year
Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz combined the C-Class coupe and E-Class into the new CLE. On Tuesday, the company unveiled a more powerful version called the Mercedes-AMG CLE53, which will go on sale in the United States in 2024.
Under the hood of the new coupe is the AMG-developed 3-liter M256M inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine. It produces 443 hp. and 559 Nm of torque, which can increase torque to 600 Nm in a 12-second interval thanks to the Overboost function. Mercedes estimates the CLE53 can accelerate to 96 km/h from a standstill in 4 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
The engine is equipped with optimized combustion chambers, redesigned intake and exhaust ports, new piston rings and improved injection. A larger exhaust turbocharger increases boost pressure to 22 psi, working in conjunction with a new electric auxiliary compressor. It also features a second-generation integrated starter-generator, a vital component of the vehicle’s 48-volt mild hybrid system.

The CLE53 sends power through an AMG SpeedShift TCT 9G transmission, which transfers it to the standard AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. Stopping power comes from 14.6-inch front brakes with four-piston calipers and 14.2-inch rear brakes with single-piston floating clamps.
The optional AMG Performance Studio package gives the coupe a more pronounced rear spoiler on the trunk and a rear diffuser between the tailpipes. Two AMG Night packages and two AMG Carbon Fiber packages will also be available.
Inside, there is a 12.3-inch free-standing display in front of the driver, and an 11.9-inch center screen. The AMG Performance package includes seats with improved support.
