Mercedes-Benz showed the electric crossover EQA in almost final form

Mercedes-Benz has released a video showing a prototype of the EQA electric crossover in minimal camouflage before the production version is launched. The start of the mass production of new items is expected not earlier than next year.

The EQA concept was unveiled by the German automaker at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. At that time, it was a compact hatchback with four-wheel drive, equipped with two engines with a capacity of more than 268 liters. from. (200 kW), providing a speed gain from 0 to 100 km / h in about 5 seconds. A battery with a capacity of up to 60 kWh was supposed to provide a cruising range for the NEDC driving cycle of up to 400 km (about 320 km for the EPA cycle).

So it was reported about support for fast charging with constant current, which allows you to extend the mileage by 100 km in 10 minutes.

Last year Mercedes-Benz changed its approach to the EQA form factor, redesigning it into a crossover. Over the past few months, images of several electric crossover prototypes have surfaced online, but these have mostly been heavily camouflaged.

The new video allows you to familiarize yourself in detail with the less camouflaged EQA prototype during tests at the test site, conducted before the start of serial production of the novelty. The video also shows a prototype of the EQS electric sedan, the design of which is hidden under camouflage.

In 2018, Daimler invested around € 500 million in the modernization of the Ambach (France) plant in preparation for the production of the new compact electric vehicle, the EQA. The German automaker is betting heavily on the EQA, which is expected to be the cheapest electric Mercedes-Benz to date, competing with the popular Model 3 and Model Y of American company Tesla. Initially, it was expected to start mass production at the end of 2020. But judging by the latest reports from Germany, the EQA electric car will begin production next year.
