The next generation of flagships will be limited to inch sensors
Inch sensors in smartphones are gradually becoming more popular, although there are actually only a few such models. At the same time, the Network is already discussing the next generation of sensors, which will be even larger. An insider at Digital Chat Station said that this should not be expected in the near future.
The 1.33-inch M43 is really ridiculously big, and it’s not coming anytime soon. Looking at the current information about the approved designs, the next generation main camera is still at the 1-inch level, but the improved versions, and then the next generation, should have a bigger breakthrough.
Micro 4/3 sensors may appear in smartphones around 2025
Thus, the next generation of flagships should remain with inch sensors, but their improved versions or flagships a generation newer can get new sensors. That is, such smartphones will have to wait until at least the end of 2024 or, more likely, until 2025.
In this case, we are talking about sensors in the optical format 1.33 inches. We can say that this is Micro 4/3, as on the corresponding digital cameras, but Micro 4/3 implies not only the size of the sensor, but also the aspect ratio, and it is not a fact that the smartphone counterpart will have it exactly like that. However, in any case, the sensor is a third larger than the already huge inch sensors of the current generation.
