Citing industry sources, the DigiTimes website said that Micron is ramping up DDR4 DRAM production at 1z nm.

DDR4 DRAM at 1z nm

This designation corresponds to the range of 12-14 nm, and the corresponding process technology is the most advanced, mastered in serial production of DRAM.

The increase in demand for this memory is mainly due to the release of 16 GB DRAM modules for desktops and laptops.

At the same time, Micron is feeling an increase in orders for DRAM chips manufactured at 1y nm (14-16 nm) standards, as the demand for memory will increase in the foreseeable future.

According to the source, although DDR5 memory and systems supporting it are already appearing, increasing the release of DDR4 memory at 1z nm standards, undertaken by Micron, makes sense, since the vast majority of the market’s needs are so far related to DDR4.

In addition, Micron probably expects to use the experience gained in the production according to the standards of 1z nm for the first DDR5 products, which will be produced exclusively using this technology.
