Microsoft ditched Windows 10X release and will improve regular Windows 10 if rumors are true

Microsoft has decided to postpone the release of the new Windows 10X operating system. Apparently, the company won’t release the OS until the end of the year. Insider Brad Sams announced this. The reasons were not disclosed, but instead, the company will focus on improving Windows 10.

The main development goal of Windows 10X was to create a lightweight and optimized version of Windows 10. It was designed for tablets with one or two screens. The developers deliberately simplified the interface, removed the “live tile” from the Start menu for improved performance and much more.

According to Sams, the OS will never come out in its current form. He believes that potential customers do not need a new system but certain features that can be implemented in Windows 10. Among them, launching applications in a secure virtual environment and a new interface.

As noted by The Verge, the new OS was likely designed to be more competitive with Chromebooks, which Microsoft sees as a threat. However, due to the pandemic, the demand for Windows computers has increased. The company may have postponed the release because of this.

According to Windows Central, the next major update for Windows 10 will be Sun Valley. Presumably, the developers will change the Start menu and allow the Microsoft Store creators to use third-party payment services to pay for services.
