Microsoft explains why users can’t uninstall some Windows 10 apps
The Windows 10 software platform comes with preinstalled applications, some of which cannot be uninstalled using conventional means. A few days ago, Microsoft’s documentation was updated, from which it became known that the inability to remove some applications is due to their interconnection with other functions and components of the operating system.
Over the years, Microsoft has expanded the list of preinstalled Windows 10 apps that can be uninstalled by users. Nowadays, even Paint and Notepad can be easily removed if not needed. However, they are being replaced by other applications such as Your Phone and Microsoft Edge, which cannot be uninstalled using standard tools in newer versions of Windows 10.
Microsoft documentation says that some applications cannot be removed from the operating system due to the fact that they are associated with other platform functions. For example, a support document updated a few days ago states that the new Chromium-based Edge browser is an essential component of the system and is used to support applications that use the web interface.
” Since Windows supports web-based applications, our default browser is an essential component of the operating system and cannot be removed, ” Microsoft said in an updated document.
Likewise, another Microsoft support document notes that users cannot uninstall the Your Phone app because it is deeply integrated into Windows to ” enable cross-device interoperability .”
Of course, users can still uninstall apps like Your Phone or Edge using PowerShell or some third-party tool. However, it is important to understand that the removal of applications associated with other functions and components from the OS can lead to various kinds of problems related to the health of the system.
