This is the second attempt to close the Kinect project
Microsoft is finally and irrevocably closing the Kinect project. The company officially discontinued production of the Kinect controller in 2017 and then brought it back to life in a new form in 2019 as the Azure Kinect Developer Kit. Now Microsoft is ending their production as well.
However, there is a caveat here as well. Having stopped its own production, Microsoft does not refuse to cooperate with third-party companies if they wish to provide users with devices of a similar type.
Until the end of October 2023, or “until stocks last”, one of the remaining Azure Kinect bundles will still be available. Already purchased devices will also continue to work “without failures”.
