Xbox Family Settings app lets you temporarily ban games

Microsoft has added a couple of new features for parents to control how kids play on the Xbox. One of these features was the ability to stop a child’s game on Xbox directly from a smartphone.

Microsoft gives parents the power to lock Xbox directly from their smartphone

The new Pause Screen Time feature is available in the updated Xbox Family Settings app. As Microsoft notes in the description, parents can now temporarily ban play on the console, even if the child has not yet reached their daily limit.

In this case, the child will see a blocking notification on the screen “Your screen time is up” until the parents give permission to return to the game. When the parents decide to cancel the suspension, the game clock will return to its original setting.

Another innovation is the new Ask to buy option. It already exists on the console itself and has now become part of the Xbox Family Settings app so that all potential purchases can be viewed on a smartphone.

The updated Xbox Family Settings app is available as a free download from Google Play and the App Store
