The innovations were supposed to come into force on October 16, 2023
Microsoft has decided to abandon its controversial policy innovation regarding photo storage in the OneDrive cloud service. The company began warning about the upcoming innovation more than a month ago, which caused a lot of negative reviews.
Initially, it was said that photos saved in “Gallery” and “Albums” would be counted separately in Microsoft’s overall storage quota. As a result, the same photos will be counted twice, which means they will take up twice as much space.
Microsoft has canceled the controversial change to OneDrive, which “devours” the available volumes
After studying user reviews, the company decided to retreat and leave everything as it is. On one of the Microsoft 365 support pages, the company announced:
On August 31, 2023, we began announcing an upcoming update to our cloud storage infrastructure that will change how OneDrive photo and photo album data counts toward your overall cloud storage quota. This change is scheduled to go live on October 16, 2023. Based on feedback received, we have adjusted our approach and will no longer be rolling out this update. We will keep the current version of the photo album as it is now.
Let us remind you that the “Gallery” stores all the images uploaded to OneDrive. However, users also get an additional album feature that they can use to create their collections of photos and images on the site.
