Microsoft retires Xbox Companion App for Windows

Microsoft has announced the imminent end of support for the Xbox Console Companion app for the Windows operating system.

As a result, the new Xbox app for Windows 10 and Windows 11 will soon be the only official Microsoft app for Xbox consoles on Windows.

Microsoft retires Xbox Companion App for Windows

Recall that the Xbox Console Companion app debuted in 2014 as Windows 10 Xbox, in June 2019 Microsoft renamed the app to Xbox Console Companion, at the same time the app icon changed to look like an Xbox One console.

The updated Xbox App for Windows Support page states that the Xbox Console Companion App will be deprecated on August 28, 2023 and will no longer be supported. Users will be prompted to upgrade to the more modern Xbox app , which allows PC owners to download and play PC games, remotely play Xbox console games on PC, and more.
