Microsoft will automatically remove old Edge from Windows 10 this April

Microsoft’s information will remove the old Edge browser from its Windows 10 operating system this year appeared a long time ago. It became known that the outdated browser will be removed automatically in April this year when the developers release the corresponding update.

Information that the Edge Legacy browser, built based on Microsoft’s own EdgeHTML engine, will be automatically removed from the OS,  appeared in the Microsoft developer blog. According to the published data, the large-scale distribution of the update, after the installation of which the old Edge will be removed from Windows 10, will begin on April 13.

For some reason, users are still using an outdated browser and are advised to switch to the new Chromium-based Edge before that date. After installing the update, the shortcuts for launching the old browser on the desktop and the taskbar will be removed. New ones will appear instead, allowing you to start interacting with the current version of Edge. In theory, users can continue using the old Edge if they opt-out of installing the update. However, in the future, only Chromium-based Edge will receive new features and updates.

As for Internet Explorer, another outdated browser that ships with Windows 10, the developers plan to get rid of it in the future. The phase-out process has already started, and many popular sites using IE have stopped opening, and Microsoft 365 will also stop supporting this browser in August this year. However, some IE components and services are deeply integrated into the software platform, so Microsoft is unlikely to be able to get rid of it as easily as it did Edge Legacy.
