The car will be released in 2025
Ford’s second electric pickup truck will be built at the $5.6 billion Blue Oval City plant. The new state-of-the-art campus also features a battery manufacturing plant, set up in partnership with energy company SK Innovation. This plant will allow Ford to produce up to 500,000 electric pickups a year at peak performance.
Ford previously said the company is forecasting a $3 billion loss from electric vehicle sales in 2023. The increase in losses is partly due to the company’s large investments in its facilities in Kentucky and Tennessee, as well as the money it spends on alternative battery chemistries. In doing so, Ford understands that this is part of the process of expanding the division of electric vehicles, and will continue to increase production of Lightning and Mustang Mach-E.
Earlier this month, Ford said it hopes to produce 150,000 Lightnings annually by the end of this year.
