Motorola decided to enlarge the screen of the second generation RAZR clamshell

Despite the fact that foldable smartphones with flexible displays are still very expensive and much less reliable than their monoblock counterparts, the popularity of such devices is gradually growing. Motorola, which was the first to announce such a smartphone, is seriously lagging behind the market leader in the person of Samsung but is trying very hard to catch up with the Korean company.

It is worth noting that Samsung has already presented a version of the Z Flip with support for fifth-generation networks, while Motorola is still working on the 5G successor to the RAZR. According to the latest data, the company has decided to revise the key characteristics of the upcoming smartphone. Reputable insider Ross Young, who is familiar with Motorola’s supply chain, said the company plans to replace the 6.2-inch screen with a larger 6.85-inch matrix in the new generation RAZR. This is, to some extent, an attempt to surpass Samsung, which equips the Z Flip 5G with a 6.7-inch display.

As such, Motorola seems to have decided to abandon previous designs that included a 6.7-inch screen. Such a change of plans is likely to further delay the release of the smartphone to the market. Recall that its launch is still expected in the first quarter of 2021.

At the moment, practically nothing is known about the technical characteristics of the second generation Motorola RAZR.
