MPEG-5 EVC – Huawei, Qualcomm and Samsung “welcome” the new video encoding standard

Huawei, Qualcomm and Samsung Electronics announced in a joint statement that they “welcomed” the new video encoding standard – MPEG-5 Essential Video Coding (EVC). Providing support for 4K UHD video with greater compression compared to the previous generation of the standard, MPEG-5 EVC will provide viewing of 4K, 8K, VR, AR and HDR videos on more devices and provide the level of services that consumers expect.

Huawei, Qualcomm and Samsung are the main developers of the new standard. To ensure its rapid implementation by the industry, they intend to actively promote the development. The companies have reaffirmed their commitment to offering fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory licensing conditions for key patents relating to this standard.
