NASA continues to share the details of the Artemis 1 mission, which, according to recent reports, is going just fine. This time, NASA reported that the Orion spacecraft launched as part of the mission yesterday set a flight distance record that until recently belonged to Apollo 13: Orion flew farther from the Earth than any spacecraft designed to transport astronauts.

“[The] Artemis 1 mission was designed to stress the Orion systems, and we settled on deep orbit [of the Moon] as a really good way to do that. It just so happens that in this really big orbit, high above the moon, we were able to break the Apollo 13 record,” said NASA spokesman Jim Geffre.

At one time, Apollo 13 moved away from Earth at a distance of 400,171 km, the new record set by Orion is 401,798 km.
