New 11th Gen Intel Core Engineering Sample Leaks Shed Light on Rocket Lake-S

New photos and information about engineering samples of the Rocket Lake-S have leaked on Bilibili. These are supposedly samples of the second generation, released about a month after the first batch. Samples of ES1 appeared in June and ES2 were shipped around August. A new leak from Bilibili explains the differences between the two.

First of all, it should be said about the QVYE sample – it looks like it’s a Core i9-11900 chip, without the K suffix, with a TDP PL1 power limit of 65 W (PL2 – 224 W). The QVYE sample offers PCIe Gen4 interface, new Xe graphics, and also supports XMP profiles that run at 3200MHz by default. The base clock speed is 1.8 GHz, but in Turbo mode, all cores can bump up to 4 GHz, and with a single-core load, up to 4.5 GHz. These are not the final specifications of this processor, but according to the source, the sample already in this state offers performance comparable to the Core i9-9900K or i7-10700K.

The second processor leaked is the QV1K, the second modification of the Intel Core i7-11700K (ES2). Apparently, the processor has a PL1 TDP of 125W (PS2 – 250W), 3.4 GHz base frequency, up to 4.3 GHz in Turbo mode and 4.8 GHz with only one core load. This sample supports PCIe Gen4 as well as 3200MHz XMP by default. It looks like there is also built-in Xe-Graphics.

Finally, the data on QV1J – the first modification of Intel Core i7-11700 (ES1) – were published again. Previously, information about this processor (but without the K suffix) has already entered the network. Unlike the ES2 samples, the ES1 modifications didn’t seem to support PCIe Gen 4.0. The CPU, however, has integrated Xe graphics, offers a base clock speed of 1.8GHz, up to 3.8GHz in  Turbo on all cores, and up to 4.4GHz when loaded with just one core.

The whistleblower also shared some details about the Xe Graphics integrated graphics in the latest CPU samples. It looks like the current driver already supports four different variations of the integrated Xe graphics based on the Xe-LP architecture. They are all displayed as UHD Graphics, but accelerators are also referred to as Xe-32EU, Xe-24EU, UHD630 (RKL) and UHD610 (RKL). It is not clear what the marketing names will be, but there are clearly options with a different number of computing units.

Intel is expected to announce its 11th Gen Rocket Lake-S processors at CES 2021 next year. They will be the first Intel desktop solutions to feature PCI Express 4.0 support and integrated Xe graphics. Intel is rumoured to begin mass production of the 11th generation by the end of January, with the products hitting the market in March.
