New Apple Watch is unable to detect blood oxygen levels normally

Last week, the new Apple Watch Series 6 smartwatch was presented, in which the function of measuring the user’s blood oxygen saturation level was introduced. In fact, it turned out that this function does not work as accurately as it was said at the Apple presentation. This was stated by Washington Post columnist Geoffrey A. Fowler, who tested the function of the pulse oximeter on himself.

“ Sometimes the new Apple Watch Series 6 reports that my lungs and heart are the epitomai of health, pumping 100% oxygenated blood. On other occasions, the watch reported that my blood oxygen level was so low that I might be suffering from emphysema. The clock cannot be determined. One thing is clear: do not buy this device for $ 400 if you expect to use it to monitor the condition of the lungs, ”wrote Mr. Fowler.

It also notes that the Apple Watch Series 6 is not officially intended for medical use. This is mentioned in the description of the watch on the official Apple website, which says that the device is ” intended for fitness and general health purposes only .” It turns out that regular measurements of blood oxygen saturation using Apple smartwatches cannot replace certified medical devices that perform the same function. According to Fowler, buyers need to be clear about this, as otherwise their health could be harmed.
