New feature on Xbox consoles makes downloading games from the web faster

The latest update for Xbox One and Xbox Series X & S introduces a feature that allows users to pause games to speed up their downloads manually. This was announced on Twitter by the head of the Xbox development department Eden Marie.

Marie said the pause feature allows users to manually pause a game to increase bandwidth to download updates or new games in the queue. This feature appears to work on both Xbox Series X and S and Xbox One. So far, the update is only available to testers.

On Xbox consoles, a running game slows down the download speed in the background. This applies to both multi-user and single-player projects. Until now, gamers have had to close an active game to speed uploading. The presented function allows them not to do this.

It remains to be seen how this will affect Xbox Series X and S games that do not support Quick Resume or whether pausing projects that require a constant connection to the web could cause problems. Marie also wrote that “new banners” will appear in the menu of the full library of players, which will translate them “into more useful categories” The screenshot included in the tweet displays the new “Recently Added” and “Coming Soon” banners in the Game Pass Library section, making it easy for users to see which games are being added and removed from the subscription service.
