New Windows 10 cumulative update will fix abnormally high CPU usage on some computers
The next cumulative update for the Windows 10 software platform has become available for download. It should solve the problem related to the abnormally high load on the central processor, which some users of the operating system have been experiencing lately.
According to the available data, we are talking about an undocumented Windows 10 error, which Microsoft does not recognize, despite the large number of user complaints that come through feedback channels. The problem of high CPU utilization is assumed to be due to a so-called “race condition” where two threads or cores access the same system variable. This creates contention because the last thread writes data to a shared variable and stores the final value. This leads to continuous overwriting of data, which significantly increases the load on the processor.
User complaints about high CPU usage have dropped significantly since Microsoft released KB5001391 about a week ago. It is classified as ” Preview Cumulative Update for Windows 10 20H2 “. This means that it contains some fixes that will be part of the next Patch Tuesday update due to go public next week.
There is no guarantee that KB5001391 will solve the high CPU utilization issue, but the decline in user complaints supports this assumption. Currently, this package can be installed through Windows Update.
