Technology development plan published
The NFC Forum, an organization founded by Sony, NXP Semiconductors and Nokia in 2004 to improve NFC, has published plans for the development of the technology through 2028. This plan outlines five key initiatives for the coming years.
One of the initiatives is to increase the range of NFC connections by four to six times the current distance. Since the current NFC technology works at a very short distance, you often have to touch other devices with your smartphone. Currently, NFC connections work at a distance of about 5mm. However, the NFC Forum wants to increase this distance by four to six times. This will not only allow contactless payments to become truly contactless, but will also speed up and simplify transactions.
NFC will be greatly improved. Distance and power will increase several times
The developers also said that they want to increase the power of wireless charging via NFC from 1W to 3W. This will enable the wireless power and charging of small devices, and could also enable the creation of entirely new applications.
Another initiative is to add support for multiple one-click actions. In addition, the group is thinking about giving NFC-enabled smartphones the ability to share information about how products should be improved
