Nuclear Throne and Luftrausers have decided to close their studio on its 10th anniversary

Vlambeer co-founders Rami Ismail and Jan Willem Nijman announced the closure of the studio on the official microblog of their indie studio. The announcement is timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the company.

Nuclear Throne

Vlambeer was founded by Ismail and Nijman on September 1, 2010, and is based in the Dutch city of Utrecht. The studio’s most famous projects are Ridiculous Fishing (2013), Luftrausers (2014), and Nuclear Throne (2015).

“For us, this is not a sad day, but a happy ending to a ten-year maelstrom with a shaking screen (a characteristic feature of Vlambeer games – approx.). We – as a studio, voice, and personalities – have achieved our goals and are incredibly grateful for all these years ”, – commented the closure at Vlambeer.

In an interview with Polygon, Ismail admitted that he never planned to keep the company afloat for so long. In addition, despite the close relationship, the co-founders of Vlambeer never became friends: “I have a lot of respect for [Niiman], but, for example, I don’t go to his birthday parties

The closure of Vlambeer will not prevent the developers from completing their latest joint project – the arcade shooter ULTRABUGS for PC and Nintendo Switch. The game is already “almost ready”, and the authors promised to share news about it in the near future.

On the occasion of folding operations, Vlambeer arranged in Steam farewell sale under the name «Vlambeer and friends”, as well as posted on itch.io prototype of their unreleased game FFFLOOD.

What Ismail and Neiman will do after the closure of Vlambeer has not yet been fully decided, but one thing the developers are sure for sure: they will continue not to visit each other for birthdays.
