Old iPhone users make Apple pay for broken FaceTime

A lawsuit was filed against Apple and the company had to conclude a settlement agreement. Users were unhappy that FaceTime does not work on iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s without switching from iOS 6 to iOS 7.

History has been going on for many years. The origins of the scandal lie in 2012. In 2017, the company was accused of wanting to save money and tricked people into switching to iOS 7. It was all a matter of patent litigation with VirnetX, whose technology was used in FaceTime. In 2012, Apple was found guilty, and after a while, the company took the same dubious step for which it still has to pay.

In iOS 2013, released in the fall of 2013, issues that were controversial in terms of patent law were resolved. But in order to speed up the transition and save money, Apple made a deliberate disruption of FaceTime software in older versions of iOS. The situation was complicated by the fact that iOS 7 really did not like users.

According to court records, Apple agreed to pay $ 18 million on Monday. As a result, injured users of iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s will receive about $ 3 each, 30% of the total amount of compensation will go to lawyers, and two users who represented the victims in a class-action lawsuit will receive $ 7.5 thousand since they were directly involved in the hearings.
