OmniVision Introduces 40MP Image Sensor for Advanced Smartphone Cameras

OmniVision Technologies announced the OV40A image sensor for use in smartphone cameras with a range of advanced photo and video capabilities.

The product complies with the optical format 1 / 1.7 “. The sensor has 40 million pixels, the pixel size is 1.0 μm. The proprietary technology PureCel Plus-S HDR is used.

At full resolution, shooting can be done at 30 frames per second. Supports 1080p recording in Slow-Motion mode, as well as high-speed video recording at 240 frames per second.

Shooting is possible with the following resolutions 7360 × 5504, 3680 × 2752, 3840 × 2160, 1920 × 1080, 1840 × 1376 and 1280 × 720 pixels.

Among other characteristics of the new item, it is worth highlighting several HDR options and noise reduction tools. The developer claims that the sensor provides best-in-class image quality in low light conditions.

Deliveries of trial samples of the product have already begun. About when smartphones with cameras based on the new sensor will appear, nothing has been reported.
