On the C grade: the maintainability of smartphones Samsung Galaxy Note 20 leaves much to be desired

IFixit experts investigated the anatomy of the flagship smartphones Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, which were announced on August 5 during the virtual presentation of Galaxy Unpacked 2020.

Let us recall the key characteristics of the devices. They are equipped with an Infinity-O AMOLED display measuring 6.7 inches (2400 × 1080 pixels) and 6.9 inches (3088 × 1440 pixels) diagonally, respectively. In both cases, the refresh rate reaches 120 Hz. The base is a Snapdragon 865 Plus processor, working in tandem with 8GB (Note 20) and 12GB (Note 20 Ultra) LPDDR5 RAM.

The youngest of the two smartphones are equipped with a rear camera in a configuration of 64 + 12 + 12 million pixels, the older one – 108 + 12 + 12 million pixels. At the front, the devices have a 10-megapixel camera.

Having studied the design of the devices, iFixit craftsmen came to the conclusion that their maintainability leaves much to be desired – only three points out of ten possible. The use of standard fasteners and the modularity of many components are called advantages.

At the same time, any repair is complicated by the use of a durable adhesive. Replacing the battery and repairing the display is extremely difficult, which increases the cost of servicing these components.
