IDC analysts summed up the results of 2020 in the tablet market

Experts of the analytical company IDC summed up the results of the final quarter of 2020 and the year in general in the tablet market. According to their calculations, 52.2 million of these devices were shipped in the fourth quarter of 2020, which is 19.5% more than in the fourth quarter of 2019. This is the first time since the fourth quarter of 2017 when 49.9 million tablets were shipped.

One in three tablets sold in 2020 was an Apple tablet

At the end of the quarter, Apple remained the undisputed market leader. It managed to increase shipments in annual terms by 19.5%, retaining 36.5% of the market.

Samsung is in second place. The South Korean giant boosted shipments by 44.9%, which increased its share from 16.0% to 19.3%.

The third place is occupied by Lenovo, which was able to increase sales by 120.6%. As a result, Lenovo’s share increased from 5.8% to 10.7%.

The top five also includes Amazon.com and Huawei. The share of the former decreased from 7.6% to 6.8% over the year and the share of the latter – from 10.1% to 6.3%.

If we talk about data for the year as a whole, Apple’s share compared to 2019 decreased from 34.6% to 32.5%, while Samsung’s share increased from 15.0% to 19.1%. Huawei’s share decreased from 10.2% to 9.8%, while Lenovo’s share increased from 5.9% to 8.6%. The share of Amazon.com fell from 9.0% to 8.5%. At the same time, the entire market grew by 13.6% – from 144.5 to 164.1 million units.
