One perfect jump sets a new Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Bros. 1983 release is incredibly popular in the speedrunner community. They have long studied the game down to the smallest detail and figured out how to make it run close to perfect. That is why setting a new world record for the fastest passing of the project deserves a separate mention. Recently, such a significant event was marked by a user under the pseudonym Niftski.

The Player passed Super Mario Bros. in 4 minutes and 55.430 s. The previous record in the Any% category (fastest passing using any tricks) was set in January 2020 by a speedrunner under the pseudonym Kosmic. It took 4 minutes and 55.645 seconds to complete.

The 0.215 second difference may sound paltry, but not with a run as polished as Super Mario Bros. Users have long figured out how to proceed in order to pass most of the levels as quickly as possible. There are only a few locations left where you can additionally save time. One of them is the 8-2 measurement, where Niftski took advantage of the Kosmic.

At this level, you need to perform an incredibly difficult trick – Bullet Bill Glitch. Its essence boils down to the fact that, without slowing down the character at a particular moment in time, jump over the third green pipe and get to the desired pixel. Gifts managed to perform the trick, thanks to which he became the record holder. You can watch the entire race in the video above.
